Karen Laird

I like to find my subject by going out walking or cycling and really exploring an area. in the past I have always preferred to spend long periods of time sketching on location, however through the limitations of the last year I have found myself more often working from photographs, choosing to paint familiar scenes where I walk often. In my work I am interested in the complexity of nature, and it is in transitory moments where the light, weather and the scene combine to create an exciting mix of colour and patterns. This drawing was a result of a day spent walking around Costorphine hill. I was particularly taken by this view of Arthur’s seat through the tangle of trees.
