I am an award winning Milliner, based in Paisley, who makes makes hats for all occasions. I studied Millinery at Kensington & Chelsea College, London and one of the very few fully trained Milliners in Scotland. My work has taken me all over the world and given me the opportunity to work in many places including Australia and Ecuador. I describe my work as a combination of design, sculpture and engineering and refer to my hats as ‘Wearable Sculpture’ rather than Fashion! In my work I try and recycle/upcycle as much as I can. The work I’m submitting is a hat made from 200 pheasant feathers that I aquired from a Pheasant Farmer who was going to throw them away. I made this recently at the start of the lockdown. To me it represents the freedom birds have to fly away as subconsciously that’s what I felt like doing too!
