Michael Durning PPAI RGI PAI RSW

Mr Durning RSW PAI has gone on to collect many awards. One of these was the prestigious W Gordon Smith and Mrs Jay Gordonsmith Award at the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) 138th Annual Exhibition.
Talking about the inspiration behind his winning painting Hyndland Road, he said: “The monumental form of Cottiers Theatre emerging from the winter mirk made for the archetypal Glasgow street image – “The atmospheric scene where its industrial soot, its heritage and its culture made the sense of place unmistakable”.

Exhibiting at two city venues The Glasgow Guild and The Roger Billcliffe Gallery, Durning is a former president of Paisley Art Institute (PAI) and is currently its archivist. Now, at the opening of the Paisley Art Institute 135th Exhibition, he has just won the Arnold Clark award for his, ‘Le Paquebot Lydia’

He studied at Grays School of Art and Duncan of Jordanstone.
