Lesley Banks

Artist Member

In her early career she focused on her life and those around her, seeking out the quintessential ordinariness of everyday life to create figurative interiors inspired by her tenement flat in Glasgow.

She was also a member of the Victorian Arlington Baths and produced two exhibitions using the life of the baths and its members as inspiration.
In search of a new challenge she successfully applied to be Artist in Residence at Edinburgh Zoo, and with the help of a grant from the Scottish Arts Council Grant, produced ‘Urban Zoo’, an exhibition of paintings, photography and sound.

Several trips to Italy sometimes on holiday sometimes grant assisted resulted in exhibitions in London, Glasgow and Singapore featuring atmospheric Italian interiors and landscapes. She has recently completed an artist residency at Scottish Canals, funded by Creative Scotland.

She works mainly in oils but has recently been experimenting with mixed media on paper and painting on different surfaces including birch wood panels.
