I am a painter, originally from Orkney and now living and working in Edinburgh. I studied at Edinburgh Art College gaining a BA(hons) in design and applied arts, and later undertook the painting course at Leith School of Art. I like to paint landscapes, and love to spend a lot of time on location mostly working on pastel studies, really noticing all the colours that only become apparent when watching the momentary shifts in light and weather. I often like to work on landscapes that are busy or complex , kind of like a puzzle to solve, finding the connecting lines and colours that work together. I enjoy the patterns that are to be found in nature and its contrast to more ordered man made structures. This painting is a view I feel is very typical of Edinburgh tenement flats, and this was a picture I was able to complete entirely on location.
