I am self taught and have been painting regularly since I found a studio in Glasgow two years ago. My materials are traditional (oil paint and charcoal) and the artists who inspire me include Gerhard Richter, Ben Aronson and Antonio Lopez Garcia.
My submitted works are based on scenes in Glasgow. This ‘slice of life’ approach is nothing new, but each painting is new. The moments and characters that I highlight would have otherwise dissolved into the flow of everyday life.
In “Buchanan Street Dash” I liked the strong light, the composition and the contrast between the young man running and the older man who seems to be stoically going about his daily business.
“Fag Break” is just a little memento of a typical scene of our times – a guy standing outside a shop with a cigarette and his phone, while the world shuffles past.
