I was born in Glasgow, Scotland and went to school at Larkhall Academy and Lochaber High School and then to Glasgow School of Art, studying B.A.hons. drawing and painting.
I was awarded the First year Self Portrait prize.
Awarded a Greenshields travelling scholarship, I spent a year in Aix-en-Provence in France at the Ecole des Beaux-arts.
I rented a studio for ten years with WASPS (workshop and artists studio spaces Scotland) in Glasgow until a studio was built for me in Balloch.
I have exhibited widely throughout the UK especially Scotland and have had the opportunity to exhibit in Germany. My work is held in private collections in the U.S. and Australia.
Awarded the Herring prize by the Pastel Society at the Mall Galleries London.
Accepted into membership of the Paisley Art Institute in 2011.
P.A.I. 2018 Awarded the Glasgow Art Club prize for “Stall-holder at the Croix Rousse”
I work from a studio at my home in Balloch, a small town by the banks of Loch Lomond in the west of Scotland.
My work is mainly concentrated in two main subject areas: still life and Scottish and French landscapes and some of the sketches of other subjects are shown on this website. Colour has always been a dominant force in my work, I value strong drawing and owe this to my Glasgow art school training.
