My manner of painting has changed over the years. When I left Glasgow School of Art my work was very tight and linear, probably due to the fact that I specialised in jewellery design, but as time progressed my work has become more painterly and expressive, particularly with my landscape work. I may start with a sketch or a photograph and then work into a stylised image or feeling of a place I would like to be.

Lots of people say that it must be relaxing when painting, but it is quite the contrary. When I begin a painting I hope It is going to be a successful outcome, but that is not always the case. If I still like the painting after two months, then I am quite content.

If I am very honest, the most rewarding thing I find about being an artist is the fact that some other people also like the work.
