Paintings in Watercolour, Acrylic, Batik and SilkI have always had an interest in ‘art and craft’ work which I promoted as a Primary Teacher. Once retired I had the time to extend my skills by completing accredited courses in watercolour and acrylic painting at Strathclyde University’s Lifelong Learning Classes. Discovering Silk Painting opened up the potential for working with this exciting medium and its vibrant colours. I enjoy reproducing the textile designs of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Klimt and Tiffany. Batik also helps deliver a looseness of style which enriches the dynamic interaction of colour. The real fascination comes when the layers of wax are finally removed to reveal the culmination of this multi-stage process. As well as having paintings at Mugdock Makkers, I have exhibited in the Lillie Gallery with Milngavie and Bearsden Art Clubs. Also as an artist member of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists, Paisley Art Institute and the Batik Guild I have had my work exhibited in Glasgow, Paisley, Resipole and Pitlochry. I enjoy teaching Silk Painting to children and adults – especially those who declare they are not artistic! Silk Painting is very satisfying and therapeutic and is an ideal craft for card makers. I can organise Taster Sessions and Workshops for Beginners for individuals and organisations.
