Margaret Borthwick - Artist Member
Margaret Borthwick is a Renfrewshire artist whose main interest is the colours and patterns of landscape especially trees and fungi.
Semi-retirement from General Practice in Johnstone in 2007 allowed her to rekindle her love of art and after a number of varied art classes she began studying for a degree in Painting with the Open College of the Arts in 2012. Part time study led to an Honours Degree in Painting from the University of Creative Arts in London.
Margaret Borthwick is also an artist member of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists.
Her work often involves repeated exploration of landscape often her local wetlands and woodlands. She is influenced by artists who explore landscape in depth developing a sense of place. Colour, light, patterns and textures are integral to her work. Close observation, sketches, memory, imagination and adapted photographs led to the finished work. Margaret also monoprints using found organic objects from her walks. Art varies from detailed exploration in pen and watercolour to more expressive landscapes in oils and mixed media. These differences enhance the visual record of her chosen places.
