Before attending Glasgow School of Art, I worked as an electrician in the construction and shipbuilding industries. Always having an inclination towards drawing and working wood sculpture I seemed to be “ a maker of things “ While working in industry my drawings and wood carvings were featured in a BBC Omnibus film “Everyone a Special Kind of Artist” produced by Jeff Perks and presented by the late Ken Sprague the Devon printmaker.

Feeling “inspired” I entered Art School 1980 and left 1984 rather “uninspired”, but gaining a 2\1 Fine Arts Degree in Sculpture. After Art School, I worked in Further Education for a time with the occasional commission. I then took up the position of Artist in Residence in Irvine New Town with a grant from the then named Scottish Arts Council and sponsored by Irvine Development Corporation, installing a number of public art projects throughout the area, most of which now have sadly deteriorated.

Started teaching in Secondary Education Art and Design eventually becoming Principal Teacher Art and Design at Port Glasgow High School.

I continued during my time teaching whenever possible in my own time, to be working on my own work, believing in “practice what you preach”. My work varies from drawing, through to sculpture in various materials, wood, stone, metal etc, both figurative and abstract also painting and printmaking. Subject matter tending to be in some way or other relating to the sea, landscape and the human environment .
