Alexander Robb - Artist Member
Born in Kirkwall, Orkney, Scotland in 1950, Alexander studied at the Glasgow School of Art between 1968 - 1972. He has lived in Dumfriesshire since 1978.
Changing from full-time to part-time teaching in 1989 in order to concentrate more fully on painting. Since 1993, Alexander has tutored annual summer schools in Moffat and Dumfries. In 1998, he was invited to teach and show examples of his work in Red Deer College of Art and Design in Alberto, Canada. From his own studios in Auldgirth, Alexander is now running summer schools of life and portrait drawing.
Alexander's subject matter for his work includes still life, landscape and portraits using a variety of media: oil, gouache, pastel and watercolour. Special emphasis is placed on strong tonal contrast and rich colour, which follows in the tradition of the Glasgow Boys and the Scottish Colourists.
